Debenham’s Neighbourhood Plan needs the support of everyone who lives here NOW if it is to influence crucial decisions on planning applications.
The pre-submission document is open for consultation and this is the time to say if you support it or would like changes. There will be a chance later to vote in a referendum but that will take time and support now is vital.
This is what the government advice on neighbourhood plans says: Whilst a referendum ensures that the community has the final say on whether the neighbourhood plan comes into force, as part of the development plan, decision makers should respect evidence of local support prior to the referendum when seeking to apply weight to an emerging neighbourhood plan. The consultation statement submitted with the draft neighbourhood plan should reveal the quality and effectiveness of the consultation that has informed the plan proposals.”
Decision makers means the Mid Suffolk district councillors and the planning officers who advise them.
Among other things, the Debenham plan suggests suitable areas for housing development and rejects other including land north of Gracechurch Street. But please read the plan. It is here Neighbourhood-plan-v35b and on the village website where there is also a form which makes it easier to give you opinion. Response forms are available at the library, Coopersfield, Websters Newsagents, the URC, Dove Cottage, the Childrens’ Centre, Debenham Leisure Centre and the Doctors Surgery where copies of the plan can be read. Completed forms should be handed in at Websters Newsagents.
Alternatively, responses can be sent by email to NPfeedback@debenhampc.org.uk. However you respond, please add you name and address. These details will not be used by the parish council other than to verify the responses.
The consultation closes on March 16 and there will be presentations and drop-in sessions at the Leisure Centre on February 17 and 21. I will post times here when I get them.
